Building...stone upon stone

Our own small stone of activism,
which might not seem to measure up
to the rugged boulders of heroism we have so admired
is a paltry offering toward the building of an edifice of hope ...
For we can do nothing substantial toward
changing our course on the planet, a destructive one,
without rousing ourselves, individual by individual,
and bringing our small, imperfect stones to the pile.
The Impossible Will Take a Little While:
A Citizen's Guide to Hope in a Time of Fear.

  1. Very inspiring. I love the way the photo and poem go together.

Greetings by the way, it's been a while!

  2. Ben, thank you for visiting Desert at http://eaglesnestcompanion.blogspot.com. You said it had been a while - and indeed it has so I thought I would explain myself.

My life has turned upside down since late last year. Here in Melbourne Australia and new environment group was formed called GreenFaith Australia - www.greenfaithaustralia.com. GFA is an interfaith environmental organisation - and we are a real liquorice all sorts. This is becoming a real faith journey with me. As well, I have become involved with some major water issues. I am quite a networker - so I am on the fringes (while not being a member) of quite a few organisations connected with water issues. I am actually doing what amounts to a full time job - without any pay - in keeping up with this; putting people in touch with people; and organising our major project for the year: Walking humbly: a journey to the Murray. The Murray is Australia's largest river and the whole system is in deep trouble. We are in the midst of the longest drought since white settlement and we have not been good stewards of our rivers or our water resources. While the "walking humbly" idea comes from the prophet Micah and is meant to juxtaposed to what we have been doing, that is walking arrogantly, it also ties in with other ideas like the walking humbly mediation of the yogic tradition. You can read about the project on our website. So thank you for dropping buy - your blog is so interesting as ever.

    Blessings and bliss
