Miss Eagle has entitled this blog To the Desert. This is an ancient Christian practice across the globe, and across cultures that Christians find themselves in. In the desert, the individual is confronted mentally, physically, spiritually, and environmentally. Some have opted for a life lived full-time in the desert. Others go to the desert to be re-created, to provide a great focus on communion with the Creator, to sustain themselves. Then on return to mainstream life - which at this time is all too often an urban/suburban lifestyle - the riches and richness gained in the desert is brought into daily life. In short, the desert is with us even when we are remote from it. The desert has transformed and enriched us and shown us a new reality. For some insight into this process, read Michael Kelly's account of another Broken Hill experience undertaken this year. reflecting the holistic nature of Desert Spirituality - the justice of the prophets; the contemplative prayer of the Desert Fathers & Mothers; the love of Jesus's Commandments; and the care of our Creator's design and work.
